Well, another year has started, and there's one new years resolution that I hold dear this year:
I will try to keep that in mind whenever I'm feeling like life's passing me by. Hope your ride into the new year went smoothly and that you will do at least a few things this year that you've always wanted to do.
I'm slowly getting back into the swing of things. Only three more days and the Christmas vacation is over. I've been wanting to play in my art journal this week, but I only got started today. So not much to show yet. But I did do something artsy. I have some old melamine trays that I've been using since my sister wanted to throw them out last year, and all of a sudden I was wondering why on earth I didn't paint them, since they didn't look very good anymore and were very boring anyway.
So I did. Sanded them, put a base coat on, and painted one with dots and the other one with doodles.
The black and white one still needs to be varnished, the other one is finished.
Here's how they started out:
and after I put a base coat on:
Some progress-shots of the dot painted one:
And the end result:
I completely forgot to take progress-pics of the doodled one, but here are some details photos:
And the complete tray:
That was fun! And it makes me happy when I use it :-)
I'm linking this to Paint Party Friday, click the link if you want to see more art by people from all over the world.
Of course, in 2017 I will continue my funnies. Here they are!
And a more serious one to end:
Take care, thanks for visiting, and have a beautiful day ♥ ♥ ♥
The black and white tray is STUNNING! I bet it would fly off the shelves in a retail store! Have you ever looked into licensing you designs? Just a thought..... :)
ReplyDeletethose trays look wonderful :D the colourful one reminds me of a river in the desert canyon and the black and white one looks like a lot of work. would be great if trays were sold like this :)
ReplyDeleteOOhhhh those trays are AMAZING!!! I love what you did with them. What a fabulous idea. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteHello Denthe. My goodness what a difference you've made to those trays! They're so beautiful... I'm sure they'd add a magical something to any dish they were used to carry.
ReplyDeleteAlso loved the doggie and heaps of pillows - ah, after my own heart... can never have too many pillows ;D)
Cheers now and enjoy your week.
LOVE those trays, especially the b/w doodled one - magnificent! Great funnies, too, my fave is the poor Trump cat. Happy PPF, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeletewow Denise -your trays are spectacular!! I hope they are well protected so you can enjoy years of enjoyment. Great funnies too-love that great Dane:) Happy PPF and a happy New Year too!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful transformations of those trays. And please keep us sane USA folks in your prayers. I can't even think about the next four years. xoxo
ReplyDeletewill do Jessica. I am not looking forward to the Trump presidency either. I think in all his obnoxiousness and spitefulness and plain ignorance he's a very dangerous man and I cannot believe that no one is stopping him. What is wrong with the Republicans ...!?
DeleteYour trays are gorgeous. What pen/marker do you use for the doodles? I have some gel pens in white but they don't seem to flow very well. Thanks, Denise, have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gloria! I've tried many different brands but I keep coming back to my favorite Posca-pens. I think they are the best, the white is really white and they go for a long time. Also, they don't "spit" as easily as the Sharpies.
DeleteWow, what wonderful transformations! Both are gorgeous, but the doodle one takes my breath away.
ReplyDeleteI love how the trays turned out. You really took something boring and every-day and made them extraordinary! Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteHi denthe - these trays are gorgeous! I love them both but think the dotted one is my favorite. What a fun project. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLOVE those trays! So beautiful, I wouldn't want to use them :)
ReplyDeleteLove your trays!! Wonderful flow and depth! I think I'll try that face on my car the next time it snows! The kids will love it! Happy PPF :)
ReplyDeleteYour trays are just STUNNING!!! Love them both! And Shaw quote is so true! :D
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Denise!
OMG, those trays!!!! They are amazing works of art! What did you use for your doodles? A pen? A paintbrush? I LOVE them!! And your funny are funny (and some scary funny). And isn't that Shaw quote true? Even more so this year - it's important to be a good human... Happy New Year!! xoxo Silke
ReplyDeletethanks Silke! I used a white Posca-marker for the doodles. My favorite ones .... :-)
DeleteLove. Those. Trays!
ReplyDeleteAnd I wish you a happy new year and wonderful day ~ may it be creative and peaceful.
Oh MY!!! Those are stunning and would so fun to us... we eat off of trays in the living room almost every day... hubby is addicted to the TV :( Something like that would brighten my meals for sure. Love the funnies!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to paint the trays...and I love the results. I wouldn't want to use them just look at them.

We must be on the same same universal plane as my word for 2017 is "Doing" no more talking about it! So already I have made plans to visit on online friend I have known since I came aboard. She lives only a few states away and this summer we are going to visit her and her husband for a few days, no more talking about it!
