Faces, faces and more faces ....

Today I took some time to paint on my big canvas. And I painted faces. But I decided not to show them yet. Why? Because I'm not sure where I'm going with the canvas anymore. I had some really clear ideas in my head of what I wanted, but when I started to put them to the canvas, it never came out the way I had intended to. So I tried something out, didn't like it, went over it again, tried out something else, didn't like it, went over it again, and I kept repeating this cycle the whole time I was working on my canvas. Frustrating, I can tell you. So now I've decided to give it a rest, and just keep looking at it from time to time to see which way I want to go next. Don't worry, I'll show the in-progress pics when the painting is finished :-)

So for today and tomorrow, I made a quick ink drawing with two faces. I'm trying to make more of these small ink drawings so that I can use them in patterns.

These are faces 16 and 17 for the 29 faces challenge. Still keeping up, although it's hard some days.

And these are the other faces I did this week:

Face number 12: sketch

Face number 13: page in my journal, where I showed a way to make hair for my Soulfood-workshop, but never painted a face. So now I finished it by putting a face on there as well :-)

Face number 14: lyricsgirl. Long time ago I made these, and I decided to make her in my brown paper journal.

And lastly face number 15: acrylics and collage in my artjournal

That's it for this week! Linking as always to Paint Party Friday, to 29 faces and to Show your Face.

To finish, I'd like to share with you this beautiful picture of a parade in the Netherlands celebrating Vincent van Gogh. The region is known as a global supplier of Dahlia flowers, and each year they have a parade where they show sculptural floats made with thousands of Dahlia flowers. This year they celebrated the life and the work of Van Gogh, who was born in this town 162 years ago. It is breathtaking, have a look a this link to see more!

Made from flowers. Isn't that amazing!?

Thanks so much for visiting and leaving those lovely comments. I hope you are enjoying your day, and I wish you a warm and restful weekend! Here's my funny for this week:

See you in 2 days with my next face! ♥ ♥ ♥

  5. Fabulous float...and gorgeous faces!! If I remember correctly I think your lyrical girls would make an amazing card line...you should sell them at festivals or markets! I think this one would be amazing in a frame. I'm sure they would make fabulous gifts. Your style is so beautifully unique Denise!

  6. What a great selection of faces - I love how you have so many different styles but they are all 'you'. I can relate to the canvas story - It's frustrating when you just can't make your paint brush translate what's inside your head but sometimes you end up with something even better and I've no doubt that once you come back to it with fresh eyes you'll make it work. that flower sculpture is incredible!

  9. Denthe, I am a huge fan of your work. I am really looking forward to seeing the canvas because sometimes art can just be so frustrating as well as therapeutic! Sometimes I've found, though, those pieces we really grappled with turn out to be something we love and the outcome makes all that frustration seem worthwhile - although I'm not such an accomplished artist as you. I am so impressed with these dual sketches you are doing in black and white: I love the idea of using these in patterns. Thank you for sharing your lovely art with us. xx

I really couldn't figure out the process there, so fun! I also always enjoy your journal pages with the beautiful script pieces. I will check out the floats next! have a good week.

  32. You always manage to surprise me with your amazing art work, and I love how the style is instantly recognizable as yours. And I've never seen a float like that, here in queensland, Australia we have "the toowoomba flower festival, just this last weekend and the floats are no where near as elaborate or beautiful as that one. tfs
