Well, you see, the colors this week are: two shades of purple and one shade of yellow. Purple and yellow are complementary colours, meaning they're opposite eachother on the color wheel. And complementary colors, when mixed together, create mud. Hmmm, not a "colour" that makes me happy...
Since the backgrounds for my intuitive paintings are the three shades mixed and mingled and dripped together, I couldn't do that for these colours. So I decided to do a coloured doodle. Here it is:
I had an old wooden painting with a kids' scene on there, that was in my children's bedroom when they were little. Since they are teenagers now, they don't want that kids' stuff anymore, so I sanded it, put some gesso on there and then painted my doodle in two shades of purple and one shade of yellow.
I must admit I find it a bit hard this year to work with only three shades. Before I usually used more shades of the colour prescribed, and I like that more. I am getting curious about the colours next week though. Hope they're not complementary colours again ... (hint!)
I also worked at my sidetables, and they are almost finished. Still some more work to do on the sides, and then they need to get some layers of varnish. But most of the work is done!
Here they are all three together:
This is the smallest one:
The middle one:
And the largest:
I love running my fingers over them, the texture feels so lovely. Here you can see a bit how the dots are raised:
LOVE doing this. I already sanded the new ones, tomorrow hopefully when I find the time I will do the base colour, and then it's playtime again :-)
I'm linking this to Paint Party Friday, to Summer of Color and to Show you Face. Lovely work to see over at those sites, have a look!
Here's my funny for this week:
hahaha! Sorry if I offend anyone with this, but jeesh, aren't these hairless cats ugly? Who ever got the crazy idea that a cat without hair would look nice? It would scare the hell out of me if it crossed my way in the hallway at night ....
Anyway, that's it for this week! Thanks for visiting! Hope your next days will be wonderful and full of everything that you need :-) See you next week ♥ ♥ ♥
your piece for SOC turned out awesome!
ReplyDeletei had trouble with the colors too and actually added another color, oh my.
your tables are quite wonderful!
xo ;)
ReplyDeleteI have decided that using 3 colours us just too difficult for me. I tried this week but ended up adding red and blue so as that's cheating haven't posted it! :) I love your soc piece. You are very clever to have incorporated them into this beautiful work. I wouldn't call it a doodle ! Doodles too me are skribbly things I draw while on the phone. :) love those tables and my that poor cat!!! In Scotland he'd die from hyperthermia.....cats really need fur!
ReplyDeleteI love your doodle creation for this week's SOC. Very cool! Your furniture is very beautiful too. The painted mosaics look amazing.
ReplyDeleteI am still laughing at that cat joke and your commentary! Hilarious and I feel the same. Love your soc and your gorgeous tables. The little square one looks so similar to a wood box I once painted and have since revamped! Wonderful intricate job you've done! Good job...so fun!
ReplyDeleteGreat piece for SOC, and your tables are just wonderful one of a kind pieces. Still can't stop laughing at the cat fun. As we would say here, just like a ribbed hen..
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work for SOC and love the tables. That porn cat really cracked me up! Happy PPF, Valerie
ReplyDeleteHaHa! Your "funny" really made me giggle! And I can't tell you how much I love the work of art you created using this week's colors! The sentiment is perfect here. And thanks for sharing your amazing tables with us, too! HUGS!!!
ReplyDeleteYour SOC piece is wonderful. I too struggle to use only 3 colours, but as I mix my own shades each week (ie, for a darker purple I used ultramarine and magenta), I feel OK using the base colours in areas of the painting (ie, there are bits of magenta showing through). If it is cheating - I don't care, LOL!
ReplyDeleteLove your furniture pieces too!
What a stunning coloured doodle. Just love it and your tables look wonderful.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutly great! ...and the tables are georgious! Ulrike
ReplyDeleteLoved your doodle, but those tables are fabulous! You must have hours invested in each one but the result is stunning!
ReplyDeleteI love the cubist feel of your painting this week. I also am loving the progress you've made on your tables. Happy PPF! #35

Enjoyed the "funny"! Your colors in your lavender, purple and yellow art are super. I would never have thought those would go together. I haven't done any of the SOC paintings yet but I am enjoying seeing them all.
ReplyDeleteThose tables look like they were a blast to make and very pretty! I can see why this kind of playtime continues.
ReplyDeleteyour SOC art is spectacular and has such a beautiful message!! Of course, those tables a re equally amazing Denise-what talent you have! poor hairless cat-that's just not right.

Love your summer of color entry. Sadly - I was not able to contribute this year. Sometimes life gets in the way. Your furniture is gorgeous - I have a couple of furniture projects but it's been so darn hot here. I know I live in the south but 99 F is hot even for here!
ReplyDeleteyou used the colours perfectly Denise! The tables are really wonderful, i'm sure you'lll have no problem selling those. How is it all going in Belgium. Its quite a cold winter here this year and i am already looking forward to summer. xxoo
ReplyDeleteLove your SOC !!! The colors are challenging this year for sure. The tables are great. I think I've mentioned that once or twice before.

ReplyDeleteLOVE those side tables. . . amazing!!
Hi Denise, I love your doodle this week although not "your colors"! Your tables are wonderful! Thank you for finally letting me know what SOC meant. i saw it on other blogs and didn't know what it meant! i wish i weren't so busy this summer, or I would be painting more. i need to try your dripping more, I failed the first time! Mud!
ReplyDeleteSuper gorgeous, my friend
ReplyDeleteSo love your painting! The colours are glorious too! And then the tables, what a great idea and so well done! ♥ Conny

That's some powerful purple and yellow. Love your table! xox
ReplyDeleteFun doodle but those tables, wow! Big projects can be so satisfying and these look fantastic. As for the poor hairless cat, it's not his fault! I think they are ugly, but cute. As long as they don't scratch me in the face. :D
ReplyDeleteomg, that cat is HILARIOUS! Poor guy... hehehhee. ok, your doodles are out of this world. And those tables! What a fantastic job you did on those. A few years ago, i had participated in a charity event where all participants (artists) had been asked to paint chairs. All money was going towards NB Child Adoption so there were tons of little children's chairs painted in funky colours. Your beautiful tables reminded me of that evening and of how much fun I had painting those little chairs. Those dots on your table just make me REEEEEEALLY happy. :) xx
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't look like it was hard for youto stick to just three colors, as it turned out great!
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonderful creation. You brought those colors together so well.
ReplyDeleteDenise I'm struggling with the colour selection this year too but possibly because I'd already decided I wanted to be able to use my chakra paintings and as they're mostly made up of several tones of the same colour, that plan has fallen through. I know what you mean about the limited palette though, it's a hard one but you've managed to create another beautiful doodle all the same. As for those tables - wow!! Thank you so much for all the information you gave me on how you create those amazing dots - I have been a bit tardy in replying to my emails but I really appreciate it. I'm not sure I could ever create something as perfect as these but I absolutely love them! they will sell in a heartbeat (if you can bear to part with them!)
ReplyDeletereally like all the shapes and bird in you soc piece :)
ReplyDeleteand those tables look great!!
LOVE THE DESIGNS!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWonderful artwork and a great take on the SOC colors as well!
ReplyDeleteoxo
Susi
Love what you did with the SOC colors. And that table is fantastic! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous coloured doodle. I love it! Your tables look so good too! Beautiful designs. Bald cats like that always make me feel sad. It seems really cruel to me to breed something that ought to have fur without. Strange. xxx
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I could look at your portrait for ages. Love the tables too, they do look great!
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking it up to Show Your Face last week, sorry I'm late coming around to leave some blog love! Thanks for the shout out too. Kx
The table is fabulous!! I love the colours! I also love your summer of colour piece, so much to look at!
