This broken world

I finished my painting! I really enjoyed this one, no frustrations (well, almost none ☺), no blocks, everything went smooth from start to finish. Aah, I like that :-)

While I was painting, I was listening to music, and one sentence jumped out to me. I immediately wrote it down because I knew I would forget, and I'm so glad I did, because in the evening I couldn't remember the exact phrase. Don't remember what song it was from, but it fitted this painting so perfectly (in my opinion). "This broken world".

I knew right away I wanted that as title for this painting. Why? Well, I had been reading a lot about the climate changes and the predictions for the near future, and it scared the hell out of me. I knew it was bad, but it seems to be going much faster than anyone expected. And everytime I saw a date mentioned, I calculated what age my kids would be, and they would still be so young... It saddens me so much to think of what they'll have to deal with because of our stupidity.

And here in Australia we have a new prime minister who keeps saying that we have no influence on the climate whatsoever. Worse: there IS no climate change. How can anyone be so ignorant? So utterly STUPID?

And sadly enough he's not the only one. It makes me so angry. And scared. And helpless. And while I was painting, I saw the ball she has in her hand as our planet, bruised and battered and bleeding. And the women as if they're discussing what we can do about it.

Anyway, that's my interpretation, that's what I see in it. You might think something completely different and that's okay too :-)

And as always when I've finished a painting: here are the steps from start to finish (beware! there are a lot!):

Would you believe I did the first 2 layers of this canvas in 2012!? Dont' know why I waited so long to do something with it, I think I was afraid of ruining it, because I really liked the background.

Some selfmade foam stamps and of course some dripping ;-)

 contrastcolours ....

 some more colours and drips

 making marks

working around the marks

 finding figures

 found a third figure

and 2 birds that I wasn't sure whether to use or not ...

 bringing out the women

 painting the faces

decided I wanted birds on there but not these. Too big and in the wrong place ..

also decided on bringing in a tree, since it's about the earth :-)

felt like making some circles ...

 working out the tree

 almost there

decided to add a flower as a final touch

And then it's finished! Except I saw when I was looking at the picture that I forgot to put a highlight in the big bird's eye. So I'll have to make new pics. No time for that now though ....

  "This broken world"- acrylics on canvas - 70 x 50 cm (27,6"x 19,7")

I'm linking this again to Paint Party Friday. Trying to get to everyone this weekend :-)
Thanks so much for visiting me, I really enjoy reading your comments! Hope you're having a fantastic day and enjoy your weekend! ♥ ♥ ♥

  10. I love your painting! I thought all the stupid climate deniers were here in the USA. Sorry your prime minister is one. What happened to science and facts? i don't understand it. Don't get me started....

  11. Love your painting from start to finish!!

Regarding your other comments about climate change, I, too, am worried about not doing enough to hold off the Sixth Extinction. They say it is inevitable and I'm hoping not to be around to see it.

Being the conspiracy theorist that I am, sometimes I tell myself that THEY know a giant fireball is heading our way and they are in denial about the whole climate change just to keep the chaos in check. But that's just how my crAzY mind works sometimes...

    Anyway, happy Friday :)

  15. First I have to tell you that I never get tired of seeing your art. Your process is that of a thoughtful artists. You have such and eye for what you are creating. Beauty.
I agree with you on the world and what "humans" have done to it. For those who don't believe this is a real thing need to do some searching, soul and other wise. I have heard older people say, "Well I don't have to worry about it I won't be here" REALLY? I have a great granddaughter coming in May and I just don't know what kind of world she will be living in. Or if there is a world.
I don't want to leave this on a negative note so let me say that when you paint you bring such beauty and joy into this world. Thank you Denthe

  16. It's beautiful and your thoughts of how this spoke to you are quite thought provoking. I, too, have wondered what is going to happen to our beautiful world. It is certainly scary....the unknown.

  17. Totally entranced by your style and your process! Such gorgeous figures - and birds, eye highlights or no!

I've read that what's happening in Australia is an unfortunate preview of what's going to happen in the world if we don't take action. It's truly frightening for all of us, and especially, as you say, our kids.

  26. What fun! Really enjoy seeing the process. The eyes are my favorite part of the painting. Enchanting and lots of expression. I know what you mean about the planet. Hard to be or want to be change but feeling so helpless. The idiots in charge only seem to care about power or money. Saving the planet? Not conducive to power and money.

    Happy Paint Party Friday!

  27. How wonderful that you show your process. I am still amazed at how you see your ladies...one of the ladies on my right looked like a deer body...before she became a figure! Gorgeous work, you are such generous creative spirit with a beautiful heart!

  29. I am always so moved by how your art appears for you, to you and the meaning behind this one wow! Just beautiful heartfelt and yes, scary as hell. What is with people supposedly educated people who cannot see that ice flows are melting, that earth is moving, that land is becoming lost that temperatures are rising where they shouldn't be or water is drying up where it will be detrimental to food production (where I live in California) not when my grandchildren are grown but NOW soon in MY life time (and I am old). Oy vey. Be scared people and conserve. Prepare.
Again, your art sends an important message in a most beautiful way; your process is magic before our eyes.

  32. What a sensitive post today, Denthe. I adore that you show your process in creating your beautiful pieces.

  33. Splendid. I feel the same about climate change and the economical /political "reasons" for denying it. if there is no problem, then we can keep doing business as usual...so much simpler that thinking about solutions and alternative ways of using and producing energy! This is not stupidity, it's plain and simple greed. The best we can do is to conserve and respect nature, and talk about the problem like you do
Going back to the painting, it's truly beautiful. The palette is captivating and as usual the whole painting vibrates with life underneath the surface, thanks to all the magical layers of love you infused it with. I love it!

  37. This painting is fabulous, just fabulous. I saw it on FB on the Magically Mixed Art Community page. I just had to check out your blog. Your process reminds me of Flora Bowley's. Did you take one of her classes? I did in 2012. I really liked looking at the process you went through to get to the final painting.

    1. Thanks Kerry! Yes, I did the first online workshop of Flora in Feb 2012. She completely changed my way of painting and my way of thinking about painting. I enjoy the process so much more now :-)
