More than a week almost without computer ..... it's definitely a change from "normal" life. But so much fun. We have been having a wonderful time with my sister and her family visiting from Belgium. Leaving family and friends behind is the hardest part about emigrating to the other side of the world, but when they visit it's double the fun.
They have now left to go travelling up north in Queensland, and will be back here in a few weeks for another 5 days. I am now trying to catch up with emails and blogposts, which have been severely neglected in the past week...
I managed to make a new Summer of Color painting in the nick of time. The colours this week are charcoal grey and soft pink. If there's one colour I really do not like it's grey. I don't even think of it as a colour.... But that's the challenge, isn't it? Using colours that you don't choose yourself. And I do like the combination with the pink. So here it is:
A girl and birds of course .... What else .... ☺. And a quote from Alfred Tennyson.
And I received a pleasant surprise in the mail once again. Sandra is giving away her SOC-paintings every week to a lucky winner, and guess who was the winner of her first painting? Yes indeed: lucky me :-)
Here's what I won:
Thanks so much Sandra! If you want a chance to win one of her paintings, go visit her blog and leave a comment!
That's it for now. Linking this as always, though a bit later than usual, to Paint Party Friday, and of course to Summer of Color. I'll be doing my best to visit you all this week!
Thanks so much for being here. I hope you're all enjoying the weekend and for those of you in the northern hemisphere the long warm sweet summer days.... ♥ ♥ ♥
Oh my goodness, what an amazing soc! Love how this came together. The emotion of sadness on her face is so powerful...her sweet eyes and vulnerability! A very impressive piece. I 'm guessing many feelings are being purged on paper!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had such a wonderful time with your sister and her family!! Now you have something to look forward to in a few weeks!!
Glad you won the artwork....
Sending love

Grijs is inderdaad een saaie kleur, maar
ReplyDeleteDie gedachte komt niet bij je op als je deze schitterende
Creatie in grijs/roze ziet! Heerlijk voor je dat je familie in de buurt is.
Fijn weekend! Groetjes karin
The pink and grey together are smashing, Denthe. I love how you are always able to create emotion in your drawings and match them with appropriate quotes. What come first, the drawing or the quote? What medium did you use?
ReplyDeleteI am glad you are having a grand time with your sister and her family. That time together is so precious!
Welcome back to blog land! Happy weekend!
Renee
Thanks Renee ♥ Usually, the drawing comes first. I draw something, and then I go looking through my extensive collection of quotes and poetry, until I find something that I feel fits perfectly. I used acrylics and acrylic pens for this, on MDF-board.
DeleteThank you for responding with the answers to my questions.

xxx Marianne

ReplyDeletebeautiful piece for SOC and PPF! I guess your sister and family trade their summer for a winter vaca!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on winning that beautiful work of art from Sandra! And wow! I love what you created with this week's SOC colors, too! It is fabulous and so creative.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful art! I'm glad you enjoyed family time, but nice to have a little break, too. :)
ReplyDeleteyes, lucky you to win that piece-congrats!! LOVE your SOC project-you have such an eye for perfect placement of color blocks and imagery. It really takes your eye around the whole piece-really fantastic!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful creation in pink and gray- fantastic design and love the imagery!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful. I actually voted this colour combo each week so far! Although I love vibrant colours when I paint, I do seem to have a lot of grey clothes! Mostly for work as I loathe black clothes (probably the black overkill during my teenage goth day put me off for life!!) lucky yoy winning Sandra's painting!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about grey! It does 'go' with practically anything though :) I love what you have done with it!
ReplyDeleteLucky you on your win and enjoy your family time again when they get back again.

We lived across the ocean from family for three years and I do remember how sweet our visits were. I love your composition this week...the quote, the girl, the bird. I hope you are finding healing in your art. Blessings to you.
ReplyDeletelovely art and well done on winning
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful... quote brought tears to my eyes and the colors actually compliment the sentiment well, despite your dislike of "the color that is not a color":-)
ReplyDeleteWonderful picture, so sad. I am sorry you couldnt see my pictures, I lost my blog this morning and had to go through a verification procedure to get it back, they said there had been unusual activity on my account??? Hopefully all is well now.
ReplyDeleteSo happy that you had a wonderful week with your sister and her family Denise... love the pink and grey together... and of course your gorgeous girl and birds... and lucky you... Sandra's work is fabulous... lovely mail to receive...
ReplyDeleteJenny ♥
Even though gray is not one of your favorite colors you were able to use it beautifully. This is a wonderful piece with words that make me think. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful and Powerful painting♥ I can feel the pain and sorrow. SO happy that you had such a great visit with family and that they are returning shortly.
ReplyDeleteStill sending you hugs and love everyday.
Pink and grey are not my usual color scheme either - but the challenge is to stretch us in some area. I think you stretched very well. The painting is very lovely. So glad you had a good family visit and still one to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteNothing you paint ever looks dull. You have even managed to brighten up the grey with beautiful patterns and tones. Fantastic work!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad your sister and her family are enjoying their stay:)
Denthe! So nice to read your blog! Love your painting! Truly beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful piece. I love how you have integrated the quote into it, and the colours work well. Such an expressive quality on the girls face. Beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteAnd lucky you to receive that piece in the mail!! :)
