I also made another map face. The paper in this new road-book is much thinner and it's a bit shiny, which makes it more difficult to work on. I'm trying out a few ways to solve this. This one I glued onto another piece of paper, but now it's wrinkled so I need to find another way. Here it is anyway:
I spent a lot of time outside this week. The weather is absolutely gorgeous, it's warm and it seems like it's the middle of summer. I love it! I decided to finally redo a small chest of drawers that I've had since 3 years and that I hated the look of. I bought it in a thrift-store and it was painted in this hideous gold colour. I'm not really a fan of gold, and this was not a nice shade of gold either.
Here is how it looked after I sanded it:
You can't really see it in the picture, but I couldn't get rid of the gold completely, and I needed some colour to go with the beautiful weather, so I decided to makes colourful washes and paint each drawer in a different colour. That was fun :-) And a lot faster than just "normal" painting. I decided to do the surrounding wood in a whitewash. Here you can see how I did it:
I took normal acrylic paint and mixed it with some water to the consistency of thick milk. I then put it on with a brush in the direction of the woodgrain.
Then I took a cloth and wiped it off. I did this for every colour. With some colours I thought the colour wasn't strong enough, so I repeated the same steps a second time.
Here you can see them all together:
And put together again:
I love it! Every time I see it it makes me happy. Here's a close-up:
I like it that the wood grain is still visible, because I only used thin washes of paint. This way the drawers don't get stuck either, which often happens when I use regular paint.
I'll be linking to Paint Party Friday tomorrow. Hope to see you there!
Here are my weekly funnies and thinkies:
