Face no.15: coloured pencil

I planned on making a graphite sketch today, but before I knew it I was colouring her eyes, so it became a coloured pencil sketch instead.

I had a very, very hard time getting out of bed this morning. So I promised myself to be in bed no later than 11pm today. Which is early for me .... That leaves me with a bit more than half an hour to visit some blogs ....

So that's where I'm going now ☺

Thanks for visiting, and I'll see you tomorrow for the Paint Party, and my 16th face!

Face no. 14: I carry with me ....

A watercolour face for today. I'm still getting used to working with watercolours, in fact, I don't really know what I'm doing. I just try things out and sometimes I like it and sometimes I don't. Whether I use it in the correct way .. I have no idea ☺. Probably not. But I have found that I learn the most by just doing things.

I didn't like it much when it was finished. Too boring. So I decided to be brave and start dripping .... Well, that went a bit wrong. The purple of the hair got reactivated and streamed down her face. I've been very busy with mopping things up, but didn't succeed very well.

Oh well, if you don't try, you never know, right? And besides, I do like her more now than I did before.

Here she is:

Scanned her and then added the text in Photoshop. Made a brush out of it and plastered it all over. That was fun ☺

Okay, that's it for today. It's not as late as it was last night, so I'll go have a look at the other blogs now.

Thanks so much for visisting and for leaving your wonderful comments! They keep me going ♥

See you tomorrow with face # 15!

Face no. 13: journal/collage girl

Today was the same struggle as last week Tuesday. Nothing went the way it was supposed to go, I had a lot of ideas but couldn't get them on paper, I got verrry frustrated and the wicked witch (remember her?) paid me several visits throughout the day.

But I struggled on, and in the end, it all came together and I had lots of fun finishing it.

I wanted to paint some faces with contorted features, too big eyes, a crooked mouth, etc ... and I couldn't. Everything I drew looked boring and too normal. So I decided to paint some faces without eyes, and paint some separate eyes too, and afterwards collage it all together.

Well, the eyes I painted turned out way too big and didn't fit on the paper, so I could only use the smallest one, and used a magazine eye for the other. I kinda like the combination of own painting and collage.

So this is what came out of it:

I experimented with black, because I always shy away from it. Even for shadows I usually don't use black. But here I did, and while I thought it was too dark at first, putting it against a bright background and combining it with some white made it better. For her neck and shoulders I printed out one of my doodles. Re-using your art, I'm starting to discover the possibilities of that...  Especially handy when you're short on time ☺.

I added the quote in Photoshop, after I scanned the image.

Well, that's it and it's time for bed once again. I need to stop doing these late nights, I'm getting sleep-deprived ....

Thanks for visiting,  and welcome to my new followers. You make my day  ♥

See you tomorrow with face #14 !

Getting ahead: faces no. 11 and 12 !

Since we have to create 29 faces in 28 days, I thought I better get ahead and make 2 faces in one.

I'm calling this "friends", since I had the challenge on "artists in blogland" in mind when I made this. It's only afterwards that I realized that I needed to put a quote on there and that the challenge is called "color this quote". Not exactly what I'd been doing on this page, and with all the wild hair flying around I didn't even have room to write the quote anymore...

Oh well, nevermind. I have my 2 faces, so for the moment I'm ahead ☺ !

I'm kinda addicted to drawing or painting women with wild outrageous hair. And for me having their hair entangled is a sign of their close friendship. The way their hair is looking they might not even ever get rid of each other ... ☺

Well, that's it for now. Hopping over to some other blogs to have a look at all the wonderful faces.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I'll see you tomorrow with face #13 ! Wow!

face no.10: here come the oneliners again ....

Well, I told you yesterday that the weekends are a bit hard to get some art done. And which one is the quickest face to make? Right, a oneliner! Just one line, don't lift the marker, just keep going until all's done.

So that's what I made today, in order to get a face ready and still get into bed at a decent hour .... ☺

Off now to visit some blogs before going to sleep. Thnx so much for having a look! I appreciate it ♥

See you tomorrow with face #11!

Face no.9: lyricsgirl

Well, the weekends seem to be a bit of a challenge when it comes to getting some painting done. It's almost midnight and here I am, getting my face on the internet in the nick of time ...

A lyricsgirl again this time. Much faster than a painting, or even a sketch. Might have to start working ahead of time when the weekend's coming ....

I'll make it quick and fast. Here she is, done in markers, background in panpastels (which isn't done very well I can see now, but alas, no more time to fix it), and with lyrics from Kate Voegele.

That's it for now. Thanks so much for visiting, and I'll get back to everyone tomorrow (I hope .. ☺)

Paint Party Friday and face no.8!

How the time flies! Friday again! First of all I would like to thank everyone for commenting on my interview last week on the PPF-blog. Wow, so many reactions, so positive, so encouraging, it blows my mind. Thank you thank you thank you. I don't know where I would be on my artistic journey without the continuous support and help from this amazing online community of artists and creatives. I'm very happy to be a part of it!

This week I continued working on my painting. I have less time now since the 29 faces challenge really takes up a lot of time. But it is so much fun. I love challenging myself and trying to come up with a different face every day. Even better if I can try out new techniques too, but there's not always time for that.

Anyway, I'll share a few in-progress pictures of my painting. Not all of them yet, I'll do that when the painting is finished. This is what I started out with:

Just a lot of paint and layers and scribbles. The first layer on there is fine sand mixed with primer. Gives a rough underground, which I loved to paint on 2 years ago, but I've outgrown it a bit now. Now I just want to drip and dribble, and that's not so easy with this background ☺

I drew a picture on there which was in my sketchbook (didn't look to "find" some image in there):

This is as far as I got last week. I was not happy with the colours. Too cold, too greenish:

Next is the picture I put on facebook last week, and I thought it looked like a shoulder. I hadn't planned on putting someone next to her. What is that hand doing on her shoulder then, you might ask. Well, I liked that hand there, even though there was no person attached to it. I'm a bit weird like that ... ;-)

But seeing this picture, I figured I'd try out painting a person next to her. Exchanged the pinkie for the thumb, and changed the colours to more pinkish-orange ....

And then decided I wanted to get rid of the pink and concentrate on orange.

This is how far I got. Not ready at all, but getting there:

I'm happier with the colours now. Not sure yet about her mate. I might just work out his face, but nothing more. I don't want this painting to be about a couple, I want it to be about her. And seeing it now on the screen, I don't even know whether I like him. He might disappear next week.... What do you think?

In case you're wondering what that funny triangle is on her belly: yes, it's a bird, peeking out from behind her back. What can I say, I like birds ...

Well I got my face for today, even though it's not quite finished:

Don't forget: if you want my calendar, now there's a discount of 20%. I received this lovely comment from Carol: "as an owner of your calender I can tell everyone that it is worth every penny and a joy to see every day". Thanks so much Carol, so happy that you like it and that you recommend it! If you want to purchase the calendar, you can do so here.

That's it for today. Thanks so much for visiting. If you have a bit of time, don't forget to also visit all the wonderful artists of PPF and of the 29 faces challenge! Even better: why don't you join!? :-) (if you haven't already...)

Hope your day is going smoothly, and your weekend will be relaxing and fun! See you tomorrow with my next face!
