painting in progress

Finally managed to make another lyricsgirl. I even put down the lyrics already :-) Here she is:

black marker and pan pastels - lyrics from Joni Mitchell

I'm still working on my large canvas. It really takes a while before such a big one is finished. But it's slowly getting there. Here's a detail of the couple:

Now that I see it on the screen I realize I have to change the colour of his ear. It always surprises me how much more you can see when it's on a screen.

Here's a picture of how the painting is looking right now:

Nearing the end. Although it might still take a while before it is completely done ...

Didn't have time last week to blog, I'm still hoping somehow I'll find a magic way to make my days last longer and make myself a bit more organized ... :-)

I'm linking this to Paint Party Friday. I'm curious to see what everybody's been up to! I'll just finish this post with some more funnies:

:-D :-D :-D

Thanks for visiting! Wishin you a wonderful weekend with LOTS of time to do the things you enjoy! See you next week ♥ ♥ ♥

No 29 faces .....

As much as I regret it, I've decided not to participate in the 29 faces challenge this month. I have too many projects going on at the moment, and I don't want to put extra pressure on myself. Which of course doesn't mean I'm not going to paint faces, it's just that I don't want to make a challenge out of it. My life is challenging enough as it is at the moment, trying to juggle all my tasks while still staying sane. Our new house has turned out to have many hidden defects, which sadly has made the renovation work drag on and on and on, and I don´t really see an end to it yet. So I try to sneak some moments of creativity into my days, but I know it won´t be possible every day.

That said, I managed to draw a face in ink again. It´s supposed to be a lyricsgirl, but I didn´t add the lyrics yet. So for now it´s just the face:

I have also been trying to work out how to finish my project in our toilet. I have painted quite a few figures in there already, you can see here how it's looking now:

Now I need to somehow make it look finished. When I first started this project, I painted some canvases in the same colours, so I could experiment on these in case I got stuck on my walls. So that's what I did now: I painted some figures on there as well, so now they look a bit like my toilet walls, and I'm going to try out some things before doing it on my walls. These are the 2 canvases that I'm playing with:

I like how the figures just seem to come out of the background, hidden in part by all the other things going on, and I want to keep this but at the same time make it look more finished. It doesn't look finished at the moment, it needs something more. Maybe some black lines or something. I don't know.... Any suggestions? Feel free to share :-)

That's it for now. Linking to Paint Party Friday, and sharing some funnies of course, to end the week with a laugh:

 and isn't that true!?

So here's wishing that all of you have or will find such a place! Thanks for being here, I'll be back next week ♥ ♥ ♥

Summer's here!

The summer vacation is almost finished here in Belgium, and this week summer started full blast! Temperatures are soaring, everyone is sweating and even complaining about the heat. I still prefer it to the cold and damp weather we have been having for too long. But it sure makes me want to lazy around and eat lots of ice cream, instead of doing anything at all. So I didn't do much art in the last weeks, but since it's three weeks ago already I don't want to neglect my blog any longer :-)

We went to Portugal for 2 weeks, so I started drawing lyricsgirls again, since that's the easiest to take with me on vacation. Here's one that I finished:

Next week my favorite challenge, the 29 faces, will start again. You can find more information here! I will participate again, although I'm not sure yet whether I'll be posting every day.

I managed to work a little bit on my big canvas. still nowhere near finished, but getting there.

As I said, we went to Portugal on vacation. I'd never been there, but I love it! It's such a beautiful country, with very nice people and gorgeous beaches. While we were there, we went to Fiesa, the largest sand sculpture exhibition in the world. It has a new theme every year, and this year it was music. It was so beautiful walking around there, being surrounded by these gigantic sculptures made from sand. So I want to share some pictures with you:

This was my most favorite one: a depiction of Pink Floyd's "the wall". So many small details, I could keep looking at it!

Okay, I realize this is a bit more than a few pictures .... Can't help it, want to share .... ;-)

And just for the fun of it: here's one of the beautiful beaches in Portugal (Algarve)

Well, that's it for now. Can't wait to see what my friends in Paint Party Friday have been up to! Thanks for visiting and leaving your wonderful comments! I'll end this posts with a few funnies, because laughing is important ! The world could do with a lot more smiles :-)

Wishing you the most beautiful day, and a wonderful weekend on top of it! See you next week ♥ ♥ ♥

Lyricsgirl face number 14

Time for bed now! See you tomorrow :-)

Where did February go?

Can't believe it's almost the end of the second month of the year!! Time always flies when I'm doing the 29 faces challenge, but it seems this time it went even faster.

I managed to keep up with the faces though. Here's faces # 20 through 23, all from the same journalpage:

I had been reading an article about the lives of women in societies where women have no rights whatsoever. It was heartbreaking and infuriating at the same time. And a few days later, when I was painting in my journal, these women appeared. Shapeless, without hands, powerless, but somehow still with strong minds that can't be broken. I love how my feelings find their way on my pages and paintings without me having much say in it. Sometimes I only realize after I've painted something that it has to do with emotions or feelings or things I've dealt with in the days before. Here's the whole journalspread:

The quote from Virginia Woolf says: "there is no gate, no lock, no bolt that you can set upon the freedom of my mind". Love that quote!

Here's face #24: another lyricsgirl with lyrics from Heather Nova

Face #25: coloured pencils and marker

And faces #26 and #27: both from the same journalpage that I made while preparing for my Soul Food class in April. So much fun to try things out, I'm getting really excited about it :-)

I'll show the whole spread in my next blogpost. Only 2 more faces to go!!

That's it for this week. Thanks for visiting! I love reading your comments :-) I'll be linking this to Paint Party Friday, and to the 29 faces challenge of course. So many talented artists, click on the links to see their work!

Hope you're having a wonderful day, and I wish you a nice relaxed weekend doing things you love ♥ ♥ ♥
