Paint Party Friday and face no.8!

How the time flies! Friday again! First of all I would like to thank everyone for commenting on my interview last week on the PPF-blog. Wow, so many reactions, so positive, so encouraging, it blows my mind. Thank you thank you thank you. I don't know where I would be on my artistic journey without the continuous support and help from this amazing online community of artists and creatives. I'm very happy to be a part of it!

This week I continued working on my painting. I have less time now since the 29 faces challenge really takes up a lot of time. But it is so much fun. I love challenging myself and trying to come up with a different face every day. Even better if I can try out new techniques too, but there's not always time for that.

Anyway, I'll share a few in-progress pictures of my painting. Not all of them yet, I'll do that when the painting is finished. This is what I started out with:

Just a lot of paint and layers and scribbles. The first layer on there is fine sand mixed with primer. Gives a rough underground, which I loved to paint on 2 years ago, but I've outgrown it a bit now. Now I just want to drip and dribble, and that's not so easy with this background ☺

I drew a picture on there which was in my sketchbook (didn't look to "find" some image in there):

This is as far as I got last week. I was not happy with the colours. Too cold, too greenish:

Next is the picture I put on facebook last week, and I thought it looked like a shoulder. I hadn't planned on putting someone next to her. What is that hand doing on her shoulder then, you might ask. Well, I liked that hand there, even though there was no person attached to it. I'm a bit weird like that ... ;-)

But seeing this picture, I figured I'd try out painting a person next to her. Exchanged the pinkie for the thumb, and changed the colours to more pinkish-orange ....

And then decided I wanted to get rid of the pink and concentrate on orange.

This is how far I got. Not ready at all, but getting there:

I'm happier with the colours now. Not sure yet about her mate. I might just work out his face, but nothing more. I don't want this painting to be about a couple, I want it to be about her. And seeing it now on the screen, I don't even know whether I like him. He might disappear next week.... What do you think?

In case you're wondering what that funny triangle is on her belly: yes, it's a bird, peeking out from behind her back. What can I say, I like birds ...

Well I got my face for today, even though it's not quite finished:

Don't forget: if you want my calendar, now there's a discount of 20%. I received this lovely comment from Carol: "as an owner of your calender I can tell everyone that it is worth every penny and a joy to see every day". Thanks so much Carol, so happy that you like it and that you recommend it! If you want to purchase the calendar, you can do so here.

That's it for today. Thanks so much for visiting. If you have a bit of time, don't forget to also visit all the wonderful artists of PPF and of the 29 faces challenge! Even better: why don't you join!? :-) (if you haven't already...)

Hope your day is going smoothly, and your weekend will be relaxing and fun! See you tomorrow with my next face!

  1. I love the shoulder hand and the "peeking" bird. Amazing how different she looks with each of the color changes! I'm kinda partial to the green version since that is my favorite color. . . Can't wait to see the finished product. How big is that canvas?

  2. I liked it originally before you swapped the fingers on the hand coz it looked like there was a hint of someone behind her in the curves on the right (as you view it). It is amazing through all the colour changes and she has fabulous eyes now. :-D xxx

  3. Love this Denthe! To see it emerging from the first canvas is so cool. Although I saw at least three other bodies in there! I love the shoulder hand and the contrast between the greens and oranges gives the painting a tension (thats if you want that?) Can't wait to see it finished.

    Liefs,
    Marianne

  14. Fantastic piece and I just love seeing WIP shots too. I like the man in the background but you're right about the painting belonging to her. Perhaps just keep him faded out a bit!

I think the painting belongs to 'her' too.... I like the man just hinted at in the background..

  19. Each step made the painting better. I really like the colors in the last photo and the face is gorgeous! I think the man could be removed or made less prominent in order to make the painting be more about her. But hey, I'm not half the artist you are so whatever you decide will be beautiful.

  21. i think yours is always my favourite blog for works in progress as you can really see the different steps and the subject matter evolving! i love this-i did laugh when you said you liked the hand just being there without a body attached-i agree! i think there is something about it-as if it's a little hint of her guardian angel or something like that. whether you decide to get rid of the man or not, this will be another beautiful creation.
